WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen's natural gas engine-driven combined heat and power (CHP) systems meet strict California guidelines for participation in the renewed $83 million Self Generation Incentive Program (SGIP).  Implemented by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the SGIP is a statewide initiative designed to promote power generation by utility customers.  Its purpose is to help achieve state energy goals of generating one-third of California's electricity from renewable sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. 

With proven efficiency, performance, and ultra-low emissions, Tecogen's CHP systems are eligible for up to $500 per kilowatt under the SGIP program.  Fifty percent of the incentives will be paid initially with the remaining balance paid over the next five years.   Under this program, systems will need to meet NOx emissions levels of the strictest region of the state, those of SCAQMD (Los Angeles), and be warranted by the manufacturer for ten years.  With Tecogen service contracts, Tecogen trained service personnel ensure that systems remain in peak condition for the life of the installations, while the recently introduced "Ultra" emissions option will easily comply with the program's NOx requirement as well as other criteria pollutants.
