Tecogen Sells Combined Heat and Power (CHP) System to Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut

WALTHAM, Mass., May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of a CM-75 combined heat and power (CHP) system to the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut. The system will supply 75 kW of electricity to the facility, while simultaneously providing space heat, domestic hot water and pool heating at a far lower cost than the conventional alternative of utility-purchased electricity.

The facility is expected to save an estimated $65K annually.

"A clean environment is just as important to good health as exercise and diet," said Marie Miszewski, President and CEO, Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut.  "Installing the Tecogen system in our Greenknoll branch will substantially reduce our carbon emissions and impact on the environment.  It will also lower our energy costs, allowing us to dedicate more of our resources to Youth Development and Healthy Living programming."

"Tecogen offers a cost-effective solution for private and non-profit health clubs like YMCAs and community centers because these facilities generally have high energy bills due to high demand for power during peak hours," said Robert Panora, President and COO of Tecogen. "In addition to CHP cost savings, the Tecogen system generates on-site power allowing the facility to buy less electricity from the grid."

In fact, the facility is gaining more savings by participating in Connecticut's Property Assessed Clean Energy program. This program, administered by Connecticut's Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, provides incentives to properties that offload the grid during peak hours.  This program is providing the facility with a fast payback system.  Within four years the equipment will have paid for itself.
