Tecogen Sells Tri-Generation Energy System to 1912 Landmark Building in Manhattan

WALTHAM, Mass., Feb. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of a tri-generation energy system to a Beaux Art-style bank building located in Manhattan's Lower East Side.  The NYC Landmark building is undergoing an extensive restoration and conversion to an upscale hotel.

The tri-generation energy system includes two INV-100 Ultra InVerde® combined heat and power (CHP) units providing electricity as well as hot water for space heating and domestic hot water.  During the warmer months, the hot water will be routed to a thermally activated absorption chiller that will produce 84 tons of "free" cooling for the building.  The patented microgrid feature of the InVerde product will be utilized to provide electrical power to the hotel as well as backup power in the event of a utility outage.

Part of the hotel's restoration plan is pursuing Gold level certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design  rating system, commonly known as LEED.  In addition to the energy savings benefit, the Tecogen's natural gas-powered tri-generation system will significantly reduce the building's carbon footprint while operating at near zero pollution levels with Tecogen's Ultra low-emission technology, all of which contribute to the LEED certification point scoring system.

"Being chosen as a primary energy component for a complete restoration is a prime example of Tecogen's ability and success in providing the right solution for urban environments, such as Manhattan," said Robert Panora, President and COO of Tecogen.  "Being a part of the building's Gold LEED plan confirms Tecogen's growing market position in the construction of environmentally friendly, energy efficient buildings."

This building has entered into a long-term maintenance contract with Tecogen.
