Tecogen Sells Cogeneration System to Another Prestigious Condominium Residence in Manhattan

WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of two natural gas-powered INV-100 Ultra InVerde® combined heat and power (CHP) systems to a 374 units, 48 floor luxury condominium residence in Manhattan's Sutton Place neighborhood.  The Tecogen InVerde CHP plant is estimated to save the residence more than $270,000 per year in energy costs and will significantly cut the amount of power purchased and reduce production of criteria pollutants and the compounds contributing to smog.

The residence, one of Manhattan's largest and most luxurious residential co-ops, will use the natural gas-powered systems to provide power and domestic hot water for the entire building.  The units will be installed on the exterior 5th floor mechanical rooftop space conserving interior building space.

In addition to the savings from natural gas-powered co-generation, the Tecogen systems provide emergency back-up power. This feature takes over when grid power is lost and keeps the building's lights on and elevators working during outages like those experienced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  When the back-up power is not needed for emergencies, this power will run elevators and house pumps, an additional cost savings for the residence.

"Large residential properties in New York City are a hot market for Tecogen," said Robert Panora, Tecogen's President and Chief Operating Officer.  "We are quoting on systems to upgrade older boiler plants throughout the city. Tecogen's natural gas systems are reliable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly."

This residential building has entered into a long-term maintenance contract with Tecogen.
