Tecogen Sells InVerde INV-100 Ultra Unit to Contemporary Luxury Co-Op Residence on San Francisco's Nob Hill

WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the sale of an InVerde® INV-100 Ultra combined heat and power (CHP) unit to a 92-unit luxury co-op on Nob Hill in San Francisco. The system is expected to generate approximately 90% of the building's electricity, satisfy its thermal needs, reduce energy costs, and cut criteria pollutants (compounds contributing to smog) to near-zero levels.

The building has successfully operated a Tecogen CM-60 Cogeneration Module since 1994, which this new larger unit will replace.  Over the past 20 years of its operation to date, the existing Tecogen system has provided cumulative energy savings to the building in excess of $1 million.

Some large residential buildings in California pay unusually high electricity rates, two to three times more per energy unit than rates paid by smaller residences. The more a residence uses, the higher the rates. The InVerde system will generate electricity for residences and common areas, shaving off the most expensive units of electricity first.  The unit's captured "free" waste heat will also provide domestic hot water and space heating for the entire building.

The new InVerde is expected to achieve CO2 reductions of approximately 265 tons per year.  This is equivalent to taking approximately 51 cars off the road, or planting 62,200 urban trees.

"Saving money and being more environmentally friendly makes Tecogen's equipment an ideal solution for many organizations," said Robert Panora, Tecogen's President and Chief Operating Officer.  "This luxury residence has a strong commitment to the 'greening' of their building as well as to the saving of money for their co-op members."
