Mechanical Construction Project Engineer

Tecogen is a next-generation manufacturer of natural-gas-fueled, engine-driven, combined heat and power (CHP) products that aim to reduce energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and alleviate congestion on the national power grid.

Tecogen’s ultra-efficient products include cogeneration modules, which provide electricity and heat, and chillers, which provide air-conditioning and optional free hot water. Tecogen’s products supply electrical power or mechanical power for cooling, as well as free engine heat that gets recovered and purposefully used at customer facilities. Broadly speaking, they are all considered Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems.

Position Description
Tecogen has an immediate, full time, opening in its Waltham, MA office for a Mechanical Construction Project Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing design and control consultation and application engineering and should be capable of taking a project from concept to completion with support from internal and external resources. This individual will design temperature control systems, perform value engineering to provide cost effective results, provide technical support for our field technicians and for our customers during the installation of the Tecogen product.

Typical duties include:
  1. Assist sales personnel in developing proper configurations and estimating costs of complex systems
  2. Offer value-engineering options to the sales force to provide best value to Customer
  3. Provide engineering design support
  4. Organize and conduct engineering investigations, computer modeling, and plan work with a well-defined scope.
  5. Write scopes of work, work plans, site O&M manuals, and permit & compliance reports.
  6. Interface with customer maintenance and engineering staff
  7. Field manage and verify physical location of specific plan attributes (walls, electrical outlets)
  8. Assure a quality installation
  9. Troubleshoot O&M facility issues and optimize operations
  10. Provide constructive feedback in a productive professional manner
Successful applicant will report to the Field Operations Manager who oversees the installation and service of Tecogen produced equipment. Requirements for any applicant include:
  1. A Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical).
  2. Willingness to travel throughout New England and Mid-Atlantic Regions.
  3. Strong technical writing, organizational and communication skills
  4. Excellent computer skills including MS Word and MS Excel.
